Open File Report 5557 Five Lakes area of interest hydrocarbon assessment summary report About the CD-ROM ---------------- This CD contains Open File Report 5557 in pdf V7.0.5 format. The pdf can be viewed using Adobe Acrobat V7.0.5 (included on CD). Five Lakes area of interest comprises two small areas in the western part of Great Slave Plain near the community of Jean Marie River. This area is underlain by an undeformed succession of Devonian carbonates and siliciclastics, which unconformably overlies Precambrian strata. Devonian reef mounds of the Horn Plateau Formation are the most prospective potential petroleum reservoirs and some nearby wells had Horn Plateau gas shows. The potential for undiscovered gas in the Five Lakes area of interest is rated low to moderate. Oil potential is not significant. Regional quantitative estimates indicate that the ultimate potential of the Five Lakes area is about 5 billion cubic feet of natural gas. The strong dependence of this estimate on the presence of Horn Plateau reefs within, or very close to, the Five Lakes area of interest indicates that interpolation from regional quantitative gas potential estimates of even this small gas resource may be optimistic.
