Open File Report 5485 Porosity and permeability evaluation and geological interpretations from core data and geophysical well logs for 18 wells in the Paleozoic successions of Eastern Canada and implications for hydrocarbon exploration About the CD-ROM ---------------- This CD contains Open File 5485 in pdf V7.0.5 format. The pdf can be viewed using Adobe Acrobat V7.0.5 (included on CD). As part of the Hydrocarbon Resource Evaluation of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Adjacent Paleozoic Onshore Project, part of the Secure Canadian Energy Supply Program, detailed log analyses were carried out on 18 wells from Eastern Canada. The wells were drilled between the late 1960s and 2000 to test sections of the Paleozoic successions, and the suite of available logs and their quality is quite variable. Simple log correlations were done and adjustments are proposed for formation tops. Fair to good reservoir potential exits in the various geological domains. Pennsylvanian sandstones of the Maritimes Basin have fair to good reservoir potential; Lower and Middle Ordovician fractured hydrothermal dolostone units of the St. Lawrence Platform have fair reservoir potential; Lower Devonian sandstone of the Gaspé Belt has good potential (whereas the Lower Devonian fractured limestone has fair potential, although recently field-documented dolostone targets were not identified in the studied wells); and fractured Lower Cambrian sandstones of the Humber Zone have good potential.
