README GETTING STARTED The HTML documentation on this CD is best viewed at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 using Microsoft Internet Explorer. If this CD-ROM fails to start automatically on a Microsoft Windows Operating System or if it is used on an operating system other than Microsoft Windows, the HTML documentation may be accessed by pointing any browser to the 'index.htm' file in the DOC\HTML directory. If this CD-ROM fails to start automatically it will be necessary to manually install Adobe Reader so that the Portable Document Files (PDF) may be viewed. See the final Viewing Software section below. VIEWING THE DIGITAL MAP IN PDF PDF documents of the digital bedrock geology maps is included. The bedrock geology contained in the PDF maps is more current than that provided in the digital files on this CD-ROM. However, these maps are in press as this CD-ROM is in publication. Therefore, they do not have Open File publication numbers and the bedrock geology may change slightly before final publication. These maps (NO11.PDF, NO12.PDF, and NP11_12.PDF) located in the DOC/PDF folder may be viewed using Adobe Reader.  EXPLORING THE GIS DATASET USING ARCREADER A GIS view of the data along with limited manipulation functionality is available through the use of ArcReader. This free software is delivered with ArcGIS or may be downloaded and installed as a stand alone application via the web. See the procedures outlined in the ArcReader Installation section below. The demonstration GIS project is located in the 'DATA\DEMO' folder.   FOR EXPERT GIS USERS: Following are the setup parameters to begin importing the data.  Projection: not projected  Coordinate System: Longitude and Latitude in decimal degrees Horizontal Datum: NAD83 Vertical Datum: Mean Sea Level ABOUT THE CD-ROM: This CD contains data produced as part of the Targeted Geoscience Initiative Project: Potential for carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn (MVT) deposits in Northern Alberta and southern Northwest Territories. TITLE: A GIS dataset compilation of samples collected for the Targeted Geoscience Initiative project: Potential for carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn (MVT) deposits in northern Alberta and southern Northwest Territories (NTS blocks 74, 84, 85, 95). OPEN FILE EDITORIAL LEVEL: Geological Survey of Canada editorial standards for GIS products are currently under development. However, every effort has been made to ensure accuracy in the Open File Report. SCALE: Feature selection and ground distance resolution is 1:1 000 000 equivalent. PUBLICATION DATE: 2005 ORIGINATOR: Geological Survey of Canada - Calgary AUTHOR: Hannigan, P. K. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The data in this open file are provided in formats suitable for use with ArcGIS Version 8.3 or later on any platform or any software capable of importing the SHAPE format files directly or any software capable of translating either ArcInfo Export (E00) files or SHAPE files. A text or hypertext document viewer is required to access the documentation. ArcReader Installation This software requires Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 6a or Windows 2000 or Windows XP and uses 200 MB of disk space. If ArcReader is already installed, skip to step 3 below. 1. navigate to the CD 'APPS' folder and copy the ArcReader setup program ARCWEBSE.EXE to your hard drive; 2. navigate to the folder you copied ARCWEBSE.EXE to, double-click on ARCWEBSE.EXE and follow the prompts. An internet connection is required for this executable to download ArcReader. 3. navigate to the Data folder on the CD and copy the DEMO folder to the C drive. The DEMO folder should not be copied into a pre-existing folder o the user's hard-drive. The path, once the folder is copied, should read "C:\DEMO\..." 4. navigate to the DEMO folder on the C drive and double-click on the file samples.pmf
