Directory Structure on CD-ROM ----------------------------- The CD-ROM is divided into the following directories: \ - Contains this readme file, as well as its French equivalent (lisezmoi.txt); a file containing disclaimers and an end-user agreement for digital data (licence.txt); and a file containing the recommended citation (citation.txt). \apps - Contains ESRI® ArcExplorer™ v. 2.0 software (see below for information on installation and licence agreement). \data - Contains digital data in two formats, as well as ArcExplorer™ project file. \e00 - Directory for ArcInfo™ E00 exchange format. \of4690 - Contains a readme file specific to files in E00 format and directories for base and geological data sets. \base - Contains base data sets. \geology - Contains geological data sets. \shp - Directory for shapefile format. \of4690 - Contains a readme file specific to files in shape file format, and directories for base and geological data sets. \base - Contains base data sets. \geology - Contains geological data sets. \doc - Contains .pdf files of map elements, including map, legend, figures, and additional notes. \meta - Contains metadata in 'FGDC classic' format. Applications Directory (\apps) ------------------------------ Contains the installation file for ArcExplorer™ v 2.0 for Windows®, downloaded from http://www.esri.com/software/arcexplorer. Please visit this web site for system requirements, documentation and user guides. The document arcexplorer_license.doc is the ArcExplorer license agreement that you agree to upon installation of ArcExplorer™. Installation of ArcExplorer™ under Windows® requires administrator privileges. During installation, files are put in the TEMP directory. A TEMP environment variable must be set and the TEMP directory should be writable. To install ArcExplorer™, run or double-click on the file ae2setup.exe and follow the instructions of the installation wizard. To get started quickly in viewing the digital data, start ArcExplorer™ and in the File menu, click Open Project. Navigate to the \data directory on this CD-ROM and open the project file (*.aep). Data Directory (\data) ---------------------- Contains data in two formats, each in its own subdirectory. Separate readme files specific to each format provide detailed information. May also contain the ArcExplorer™ project file for displaying the data with ArcExplorer™. Consult the Cartographic Digital Standards (CDS) document, found at http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/ess/carto under the Knowledge Base section, for information about naming conventions, attribute structure and definitions, required info files, and the use of external tables.
