Nechako NATMAP Digital CD-ROM Geological Survey of Canada About the CD-ROM ---------------- This CD-ROM contains data sets in a variety of formats. Although the digital data was prepared with Arc/Info, it can also be imported by other types of GIS software such as Arcview and MapInfo, or viewed as a dbase file In addition, it contains SurView, a program that allows you to display, plot and query the data sets without the need for a GIS system. The INTRO Panel --------------- This is an Autoplay CD. Inserting the CD into your CD-ROM drive will automatically launch INTRO, a panel from which you can start SurView. On some systems the autoplay functionality will not work. In this case you can start INTRO by clicking on intro.exe in the root directory of the CD. Directory Structure ------------------- The CD-ROM contains four main directories: \apps - SurView.exe and associated files \doc - Documentation in HTML and graphic files \data - Data sets in various formats \intro - Sets up the introductory files Documentation ------------- All documentation files are provided in HTML, Readable in Netscape, and Internet Explorer. HTML files are the best format in which to read documentation as other formats do not contain diagrams, links or figures. Begin by clicking on Documention button on the INTRO panel, or by double-clicking on \doc\index.htm. This document contains links to all other HTML files. SurView ------- A limited runtime version of SurView (a viewing application developed by the GSC to display geophysical, geological, and geochemical data) is provided on this CD-ROM in the \apps directory. SurView can display, print and query the geology data in the \data\geograph\surview and the \data\utm\surview directories. To start SurView from INTRO panel click the view data button. You can also start SurView by double clicking on any .asx, .fdl in the \data\geograph\surview or \data\utm\surview directories. Other (Microsoft® Windows TM) GIS ---------------------------------- ArcINFO TM coverages are in \data\geograph\arcinfo or \data\utm\arcinfo directories; Arc Interchange (E00) files in \data\e00 directories; and shapefiles in the \data\geograph\e00 or \data\utm\e00 directories can be imported into several other GIS systems that import this format, including ArcView and MapInfo for Microsoft® Windows TM.
