Directory Structure on CD-ROM ----------------------------- The CD-ROM is divided into the following directories: \ - Contains this readme file, as well as its French equivalent (lisezmoi.txt); a file containing disclaimers and an end-user agreement for digital data (licence.txt); and a file containing the recommended citation (citation.txt). \apps - Contains ESRI® ArcReader™ v. 9.1 software (see below for information on installation). \data - Contains data files designed for GIS analysis and querying and data files designed for plotting the paper map. \carto - Contains data files designed for plotting the paper map in two formats. \e00 - Directory for ArcInfo™ E00 exchange format. \a2083 - Contains a readme file specific to files in E00 format and directories for base and geological data sets. \base - Contains base data sets. \geology - Contains geological data sets. \shp - Directory for shapefile format. \a2083 - Contains a readme file specific to files in shape file format, and directories for base and geological data sets. \base - Contains base data sets. \geology - Contains geological data sets. \gis - Contains data files designed for GIS analysis and querying in two formats. \e00 - Directory for ArcInfo™ E00 exchange format. \shp - Directory for shapefile format. \doc - Contains documents in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Portable Document Format (PDF) formats. \HTML - Directory for HTML format. \images - Contains images for HTML files. \PDF - Contains image of map in PDF format. \gis_demo - Contains Published Map File (PMF) and shape files for viewing using ArcReader. \meta - Contains metadata in 'FGDC classic' format. Applications Directory (\apps) ------------------------------ Contains installation file for ArcReader™. The installation file for ArcReader™ v 9.1 for Windows® was downloaded from http://www.esri.com/software/arcreader. Please visit this web site for system requirements, documentation and user guides. Installation of ArcReader™ under Windows® requires administrator privileges. During installation, files are put in the TEMP directory. A TEMP environment variable must be set and the TEMP directory should be writable. To install ArcReader™, run or double-click on the file arcreader91.exe and follow the instructions of the installation wizard. To get started quickly in viewing the digital data using ArcReader™, copy the GIS_DEMO folder on the CD to your root C drive (C:\GIS_DEMO); then navigate to the GIS_DEMO folder on your C drive and double-click on the file MAP2083A.pmf. Data Directory (\data) ---------------------- Contains data in two formats for both the GIS analysis data files and the paper map plotting data files, each in their own subdirectories. Separate readme files specific to each format of the data files designed for plotting the paper map provide detailed information. For the data files designed for plotting the paper map please consult the Cartographic Digital Standards (CDS) document, found at http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/ess/carto under the Knowledge Base section, for information about naming conventions, attribute structure and definitions, required info files, and the use of external tables. The GIS map feature class names and attributes are explained in the \doc\html\descript.htm file on this CD. Demonstration Map Directory (\gis_demo) --------------------------------------- Contains all files required for displaying the data with ArcReader™.
