Cobaltinitrite-stained rock slab of magnetite-calcite vein with disseminated earthy hematite cutting across biotite-magnetite-K-feldspar alteration at the Ernest Henry ore zone. The lack of development of a K-skarn facies illustrates that fluid temperatures remained below those required for skarn development as the HT K-Fe alteration transitioned to the LT K-Fe alteration and that fluid conditions remained reducing enough for magnetite not hematite to crystallize as the dominant iron oxide.

Albitized fragmental volcanic rocks (Na facies) replaced by anastomosed fronts of disseminated microcrystalline to fine magnetite of the high-temperature C-Fe facies and cut by irregular magnetite, locally porous and enclosing scheelite and accessory allanite, apatite and titanite (past-producing Northrim mine, Camsell River district, Great Bear magmatic zone). Early alteration zones are cut by low-temperature Ca-Mg-Fe facies veins and stockworks with calcite, magnetite, sulphides, chlorite, epidote and quartz that locally display K-feldspar haloes. The earlier generation of magnetite alteration is most abundant as rims on fragments.

Brecciated coarse-grained apatite among magnetite-apatite mineralization. Alignement of apatite fragments define a flow foliation and is interpreted as a record of fluidization of the metasomatic magnetite mush through tectonic or volcanic activity. This iron oxide-apatite (IOA) mineralization stems from intense replacement of a fragmental volcanic rock by metasomatic microcrystalline to fine-grained magnetite and apatite. The apatite grain is fractured and infilled by actinolite veinlets and chloritized.

Caption:
Stratabound ore of the NICO deposit dominated by cobalt-rich arsenopyrite and magnetite that cut pervasive and intense amphibole-magnetite-biotite alteration of metasedimentary rocks. Subsequent veins with magnetite and arsenopyrite are finer grained and cut sharply the stratabound mineralization (CQA-08-552F from muck pile M2319450 to M231951).

Magnetite-amphibole-biotite and K-feldspar-magnetite alteration of an andesite marking the transitions from high-temperature Ca-K-Fe to high-temperature K-Fe alteration facies, Echo Bay mine area.
