Description :
Outcrop of Paleoproterozoic-age granite, dated at ca. 2.02 Ga, intruded into Archean age basement of the Rae Craton. View is to the east, overlooking Foxe Basin. The granite shows very little strain and is exfoliated, forming sub-horizontal fractures. A set of E-W sub-vertical fractures of unknown age, and another steep N-S set related to opening of the Foxe Basin cross-cut to form perfect blocks. The ca. 2.02 Ga granite may be related to early opening of the Penrhyn and Piling basins. The flat plain in the down-dropped section in the distance consists of Paleozoic limestone of the Foxe Basin. There is local evidence
of use of the loose granite blocks by early inhabitants to build shelters and caches
