ProgrammePreparation of a submission for an extended continental shelf in the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans under UNCLOS, Délimitation du plateau continental du Canada en vertu de la Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer (UNCLOS)
Résumé(disponible en anglais seulement)
This chapter summarizes the landscapes and landforms on the seafloor of southeastern Canada. On the continental shelf, cross-shelf troughs, fjords and tunnel valleys were sculpted by the Laurentide Ice Sheet whereas recessional moraines were deposited by a retreating ice margin. The eustatic sea-level rise that followed deglaciation due to the melting of the ice sheet on most of the Scotian and Grand Banks shelves then remobilized coarse sediment, leading to the formation of sand ridges and scours. Closer to Québec, glacio-isostatic rebound outpaced glacio-eustasy, leading to a relative sea-level fall, emerging previously underwater environments.
Résumé(Résumé en langage clair et simple, non publié)
Ce chapitre résume les différents paysages et formes de terrain observés sur le plancher marin du Sud-Est du Canada.
