Résumé | (disponible en anglais seulement) RADARSAT-1 ScanSAR images can provide a sea surface view of storms that is complementary to other remote sensing observations such as cloud top images. The
ScanSAR images provide the location of the storm centre, the location of the wind shear zone (i.e., front), the state of boundary layer evolution, and zones of precipitation. By analysis of radiometrically calibrated ScanSAR imagery, it is possible,
in principle, to derive the surface wind field on kilometre-scale spatial grids, and to observe the details of wind shear over short spatial scales. We are involved in several storm detection demonstration projects, including an Atlantic Basin
hurricane watch, and the observation of polar lows in the Labrador Sea. |
