Résumé | (disponible en anglais seulement) During March 2004, a high-resolution aeromagnetic survey was flown in the Marrtown area of southern New Brunswick by Sander Geophysics Ltd of Ottawa on behalf
of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) and the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources (NBDNR). Survey lines were flown at a 300 metre line spacing, with control lines at a 1.6 kilometre spacing at a nominal height of 150 metres. The survey
was complied with GSC specifications and the contract was monitored by GSC personnel. This aeromagnetic survey and the production of maps were funded by Natural Resources Canada's Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI) 2003-2005 and the New
Brunswick Department of Natural Resources, Minerals, Policy and Planning Division. It was produced as part of the Hydrocarbon Potential in the Paleozoic Frontier Basins of the Canadian Appalachians Project and is a contribution to the Consolidating
Canada's Geoscience Knowledge Program of the Earth Science Sector of Natural Resources Canada. The survey area covers parts of NTS map sheets 21H/5, 21H/6, 21H/11, 21H/12, 21H/13 and 21H/14, 21I/3 and 21I/4 in a region that is favourable for
gold, potash, and hydrocarbon resources. Late Neoproterozoic to Middle Paleozoic rocks exposed in the area represent the easternmost extension of the New River and the gold-rich Annidale belts. In the northern part of the area, these belts are
overlain and obscured by Late Paleozoic rocks constituting shallow cover. In the south, basement terrains are deeply buried beneath the cover that holds potential for salt and potash deposits, and hydrocarbon reservoirs. The aeromagnetic survey and
its interpretation will provide insight to hidden, potentially mineralized basement rocks and structures as well as prospective structures in the cover sequences. The results of the survey have been jointly published by the GSC and NBDNR in the
form of 1:50,000 scale colour maps of the Residual Magnetic Total Field, and First and Second Vertical Derivatives of the Magnetic Field. Digital data in point form and as grids are available from the Geophysical Data Centre, GSC, Ottawa. |
