Résumé | The poster and supporting documentation on seismicity in the Charlevoix Kamouraska region are intended to stimulate the reader's interest in earthquakes and self-help preparation for emergencies. The
information in this poster is not complete; rather, it is intended to inspire readers to take concrete action on their own. The poster begins by familiarizing the reader with the evidence of probable major earthquakes (magnitude 6.0 and up) in
Charlevoix-Kamouraska. A map showing seismic activity in eastem Canada is included. Another map shows the position of some 2,000 earthquakes (circles) recorded between 1978 and 1999 on a base map prepared by combining a RADARSAT image (texture) with
a digital terrain model (colours). With the aid of the special glasses that included, the map provides a three-dimensional image of the seismicity and physiography of the region. Finally, there are also several photographs of damage caused by the
1925 earthquake. The text deals concisely with the question of earthquakes in this region. Knowing about seismic activity in the region should encourage individuals to be prepared. The reader is directed to a number of Internet sites where additional
information is available. Supplementary materials are included in this package of supporting documentation. |
