AbstractAutomatic magnetic observatory systems (AMOS) incorporating a fluxgate sensor and a proton precession magnetometer are in operation at 10 Canadian observatories. Values of the field (H , D, z, F) are recorded each minute on digital magnetic tape. Computer programs edit the data and reduce AMOS values ta absolute observatory piers. Comparison of AMOS mean hourly values with sirnilar values scaled from RUSKA magnetograms, and other tests, support the adoption of AMOS systems as primary recorders at Canadian observatories.
