Abstract | (unpublished) This presentation reviews research results of the Targeted Geoscience Initiative program on polymetallic metasomatic mineral systems that host iron oxide copper-gold
(Co-Ag-Bi-REE-U) (IOCG) and affiliated deposits. It provides an overview of the alteration facies diagnostic of these mineral systems followed by examples of the spectrum of deposit types and commodities (base, precious and critical metals, iron,
uranium, thorium, etc.) that form as a function of the metasomatic growth of the system, ingress of syn-metasomatic fluids and magmas, and tectonic activity. Iron oxide and alkali-calcic alteration facies are also shown to be metal pathways to ore
and to serve as mappable criteria for mineral potential assessment. The case examples used include the Canadian Great Bear magmatic zone, Central Mineral Belt and Romanet Horst in Canada as well as the Cloncurry district and the Olympic Copper-Gold
province in Australia. |
