Abstract | Compressive and shear wave velocity measurements, as well as uniaxial compression testing, were conducted on samples of dike and xenolith material exposed during shaft sinking at Atomic Energy of Canada
Ltd.'s underground research laboratory (URL). Five rock types were included for testing, these being; granodiorite, pegmatite, heterogeneous coarse to pegmatitic leucocratic granite, amphibolite and homogeneous leucocratic granite. The purpose of the
study is to determine the mechanical properties of the inclusions in the Lac du Bonnet batholith in the vicinity of the URL. Such information will be of use to numeric modellers predicting rock mass response to the emplacement of nuclear waste in
large underground openings. |
