In this work we show that detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology techniques can provide inter-terrane stratigraphic correlations that help define the earliest tectonostratigraphy of the Yukon-Tanana terrane of the Canadian Cordillera. Statistical comparisons of detrital zircon data of Snowcap assemblage basement to the Yukon-Tanana terrane and overlying strata were made to reference data compiled from literature of Proterozoic through Devonian autochthonous and parautochthonous North American margin platformal strata. The Snowcap age distributions correlate most strongly to Neoproterozoic through Ordovician platformal strata in southern British Columbia, and Ordovician through Devonian platformal strata in northern British Columbia. Age distributions from parautochthonous North America strata show strong correlations to some Snowcap age distributions. These results suggest that the Yukon-Tanana terrane was positioned at a comparable latitude to northern BC prior to the Cenozoic.
