AbstractThis Open File is the second report providing spectral characteristics of select mineral samples held in the Geological Survey of Canada National (Reference) Mineral Collection (NMC). The focus of this spectral library is on minerals containing REE, Nb, U and Th of which there were 428 samples suitable for analyses out of a total of 1300 specimens. Sample spectra were collected using a TerraSpec Pro™ 4 Spectrometer on loan from Malvern Panalytical. Spectral collection was highly controlled and performed in a dark box using a contact probe or with the aid of a Muglight. All samples were digitally photographed. A hyperlinked Master Table provides access to a plot of each spectrum, description of each sample, raw data in text format and photograph of the specimen. The spectra were not vetted as to purity nor analysed by alternate or complementary methods such as X-ray diffraction. Original information recorded on each NMC card is provided in each description.

This Open File report provides the second spectral database of reference samples housed in the National Mineral Collection (NMC). The focus was on REE-Nb-U-Th-bearing minerals found in a variety of ore deposits. This database is a foundation for building spectral libraries for exploration of critical metals.
