Working with partners from Mexico and the United States through the Commission on Environmental Cooperation, the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing at
Natural Resources Canada has developed a uniform high resolution land cover dataset for the entire North American continent that uses the same system to classify vegetation and other land surface features in all three countries. This poster features
descriptions of the land cover classes present in Canada, and shows their distribution across the country for the year 2010. With a finer level of detail than previous land cover datasets, this new land cover allows for more accurate analyses of
changes that take place on the ground at local, regional, national and continental levels, and sets a baseline for a refreshed land cover of Canada and North America every 5 years, which will be invaluable to scientists, land managers, conservation
organizations and all levels of government, for monitoring changes over time. |
