Summary | (Plain Language Summary, not published) This Open File is a cruise report for a multi-disciplinary, international marine research program in the southern Beaufort Sea. The expedition was a
collaboration between the Korea Polar Research Institute, the Geological Survey of Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. Key goals were to investigate the geology, permafrost and gas hydrate conditions
of the outer shelf and upper slope of the Beaufort Sea to assess the glacial history, paleoceanography, and microbiology. Some geothermal, geochemistry, oceanographic and atmospheric studies also took place. Multi-channel seismic surveying addressed
geologic architecture, permafrost state, free and hydrated methane, and mass transport phenomena. Continuous multibeam and sub-bottom profiler data were acquired to provide regional framework, while high-resolution AUV and ROV dives targeted seafloor
pingo-like features and mud volcanoes. Box and gravity cores were acquired for ground-trothing. |
