Summary(Plain Language Summary, not published)
Major highlights of this wrap-up year of the Thelon tectonic zone (Ttz) project include: (1) differences in crystallization ages (as early as 2.07 Ga in Ttz), major and trace element geochemistry, and oxygen isotope data demonstrate that the Ttz is not a direct correlative of the Taltson magmatic zone, as has long been considered; (2) geochemical data indicate Ttz plutonism occurred in a convergent margin setting, contradicting a proposed intracontinental model; (3) Nd-Sm isotopic data suggest the four main belts of ~2.0 Ga Ttz plutonic rocks interacted with Mesoarchean crust of the western Rae craton; (4) till and stream sediment data reveal three primary areas of elevated economic potential: base and precious metals in the eastern Slave craton, base metals associated with Paleoproterozoic supracrustal rocks of Ellice River domain, gold associated with dioritic rocks and/or iron formation in southeastern region.
