Summary(Plain Language Summary, not published)
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is evaluating the petroleum resource potential for areas identified for protection as part of the Government of Canada¿s commitment to conserve 10% of its marine areas by 2020. The Government of Canada, through Parks Canada Agency (PCA) is proposing to establish a National Marine Conservation Area (NMCA) that includes much of Lancaster Sound in Nunavut. NRCan, through the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) conducted a qualitative petroleum resource assessment for a large area of Lancaster Sound and surrounding areas within which the NMCA would eventually be defined. This Open File Report details the methodology and the results of the GSC analysis. Petroleum prospectivity was mapped throughout the region, and a map overlay describing the mineral potential was also provided.
