ProgramGEM2: Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals South Rae Province Bedrock/Surficial geology
Released2017 07 06
Summary(Plain Language Summary, not published)
The South Rae mapping project is part of the Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals Program (GEM II) run by Natural Resources Canada. This contribution comprises a presentation given on September of 2015 in the first 'South Rae mapping project workshop' (Ottawa), held after the 2015 field season campaign (Canadian Northwest Territories; NTS maps 75A,B). The presentation contains descriptions and locations of several newly discovered radiometric anomalies in the southwestern (Sarita, Hidden and Triple X) and northeastern (Gemelo area) portions of the Black Bay fault. The latter area is also host to the newly discovered Gemelo REE showing (up to 0.8 wt. % REE). The showing is hosted by a syenitic unit in veins, and/or segregates made of clinopyroxene-hyalophane-magnetite-allanite. This minerolagy is similar to that of the Hoidas deposit (~100 km SW; northern Saskatchewan) also located along the trace of the Black Bay fault. Finally, we present multiple element concentration maps done after a lake sediment geochemical sampling survey carried out in northern Saskatchewan.
