Based on a review of the well logging data of all the vertical boreholes with core taken from their Upper Devonian Duvernay Formation in the Alberta part of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB), 12 wells were selected for extensive sampling at about 1 sample/m interval. A total of 471 samples have been collected and submitted for Rock-Eval analysis for the purpose of evaluating their hydrocarbon potential. The Rock-Eval analysis was carried out at the GSC-Calgary Organic Geochemical Laboratories using the Vinci¿s Rock-Eval 6 Turbo instruments following the standard Rock-Eval procedure. The results are being utilized in various publications for interpreting the shale gas and shale oil potential of the Duvernay Formation shale of the WCSB.
