Summary(Plain Language Summary, not published)
Paper shows that the thesis of de souza et al that there is no west-rdirected subduction during the silurian based on the putative absence of arc magmatism is flawed. It is shown there is arc magmatism of the correct age and in addition it is shown that basins can close without producing arc magmatism when the rate of subduction is low.
