| Summary | (Plain Language Summary, not published) This map series depicts backscatter on George¿s Bank, offshore Nova Scotia. Backscatter, a property derived from multibeam sonar surveys, can be used as
an indicator of the material at the sea floor (bedrock, sand, gravel, or mud, for example). These backscatter maps complement the previously published maps of seafloor morphology derived from the same multibeam sonar surveys. When used in
conjunction, the two map series could be used to provide important information on seafloor sediment mobility and hazards to the hydrocarbon and communication industries, and other government agencies. |
