Summary | (Plain Language Summary, not published) Earthquakes are the most destructive natural hazard events capable of producing severe casualties and substantial damage to infrastructure. A
satellite-based monitoring technique called Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) can measure ground deformation produced by earthquakes, which then can be used for modelling of earthquake parameters. Understanding of earthquake parameters
is important for forecasting the location, time, and/or magnitude of the future earthquakes, therefore, mitigating associated risk of casualties and damages. Presented here are deformation maps that can be used for modelling of the earthquake that
occurred in Iran in 2013. This space-borne data was acquired by the Canadian RADARSAT-2 satellite upon our request with the goal of advancing the understanding and use of this technology for deformation mapping. |
