AbstractThis map and the related geodatabase illustrate the bedrock geology of southeastern Victoria Island. Most of the map area is underlain by generally flat-lying Cambrian to Silurian strata of the Arctic Platform. Also, locally documented are inliers of Neoarchean felsic plutonic rocks, unconformable clastic rock-dominated strata of the Paleoproterozoic Kilohigok Basin, Meso- and Neoproterozoic strata of Amundsen Basin, and diabase sills related to the Franklin Large Igneous Province (ca. 723 Ma).
Summary(Plain Language Summary, not published)
This map and related digital map files presents our current understanding of the geology of southeastern Victoria Island in the southern Canadian Arctic Islands, western Nunavut. Extensive glacial material in this area means that we have a poor understanding of underlying bedrock as portrayed on this map. Nevertheless, the area has some potential for base metals and kimberlite; the pipe-like rock body that may contain commercial diamond.
