AbstractThis map and the related geodatabase illustrate the bedrock geology of southwestern Victoria Island. Major features of the area include Meso- and Neoproterozoic strata of Amundsen Basin, diabase sills related to the Franklin Large Igneous Province (ca. 723 Ma), and generally flat-lying Cambrian to Devonian strata of Arctic Platform.
Summary(Plain Language Summary, not published)
This map and related digital map files presents our current understanding of the geology of southwestern Victoria Island in the southern Canadian Arctic Islands, western Nunavut and northern Northwest Territories. Extensive glacial material in this area means that we have a poor understanding of underlying bedrock in many parts of this map. Nevertheless, the area has some potential for base metals and kimberlite; the pipe-like rock body that may contain commercial diamond.
