AbstractThe National Topographic System (NTS) Polychrome Map Standards and Specifications are a description of all features and information shown on a NTS topographic map produced by the Centre for Topographic Information of Natural Resources Canada. This includes a definition of each map feature, instructions on how each feature is compiled and a description of the cartographic symbols used to represent each map feature. Also described in this document is how "non feature" information is to be depicted on a NTS map. This information includes the map legend, scale, border and grid as well as notes describing the magnetic declination, map projection and contour interval. This publication is often referred to as the NTS Cartographic Specification and provides the user with a comprehensive description and illustration of all features and information portrayed on a NTS topographic map.

[Addendum, 2014-06-16: Since 2009, the 1:50 000 Topographic maps produced by Natural Resources Canada used the "CanTopo Map Standards and Specifications 1:50 000".]
