AbstractWater and gas chemistry of the Cretaceous shale aquifers and gas reservoirs of the Pembina Hills area in southwest Manitoba were analysed. Chemistry and stable isotope results indicate that accumulations of biogenic natural gas is present in this area. Stratigraphic extrapolations of the water and gas well data suggest that the Assiniboine Member of the Favel Formation and the Boyne Member of the Carlile Formation are the horizons with known gas accumulations.
