| Abstract | This paper summarizes the steps taken in the generation of the global 1 km AVHRR land dataset, and it documents an evaluation of the data product with respect to the original specifications and its
usefulness in research and applications to date. The evaluation addresses data characterization, processing, compositing and handling issues. Examples of the main scientific outputs are presented and options for improved processing are outlined and
prioritized. The dataset has made a signicant contribution, and a strong recommendation is made for its reprocessing and continuation to produce a long-term record for global change research. |
