AbstractTemporal composites of NOAA Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer data often contain residual clouds. In a Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) image, these pixels have lower values (i.e., are darker). The contaminated pixels create artifacts which mask or alter the seasonal trends of the vegetation. This paper describes a method which corrects for the residual clouds effect by employing knowledge of the temporal behaviour of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data. A correction algorithm was developed to replace the darker pixels by seasonally-adjusted valued derived from the envelope of that year's NDVI profile.
