Abstract | All RADARSAT real-time data received in direct downlink at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing's two satellite receiving stations will be processed and displayed in real-time using the FastScan system.
This system produces reduced-resolution imagery and its prime function is to provide quality assurance for the received data. Recent developments suggested that radar quick-look imagery could help users to verify that their target of interest was
visible and not hampered or hidden due to environmental effects such as a recent rain event, and that their target was indeed imaged in cases of ice floes and oceanic features. FastScan also offers a product: its value stems from its rapid delivery
and easily compressible and transferable file size. Beyond rapid delivery, this product may also have a value for global scale and other large area studies as the 100m to 500m mode-dependent pixel spacing closely matches the resolution of NOAA AVHRR
or MODIS sensors. |
