Abstract | Remotely sensed data can supply useful inputs to crop monitoring systems. However, to obtain the maximum benefits, timely data is required. LANDSAT multispectral scanner data, although it is capable of
supplying this crop condition information, cannot always be obtained when required. We have looked at the possibility of using data from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) on the NOAA polar orbiting satellite for this purpose. This
satellite can produce daily data of any agriculturally significant area on the earth but there are interpretation problems associated with the wide scan angle (±56° from nadir) and low resolution (approximately 1.1 km at nadir). This paper
discusses the corrections which must be make to these data and the information content. |
