AbstractThe Generalized Geological Map of the World and Linked Databases CD-ROM contains three basic digital data sets. One provides the raw components of a generalized geological map of the world and the other two consist of copper and seafloor mineral deposit sites and associated descriptive data to be envisaged against the geological backdrop. They are meant for the preparation of displays which visually communicate global geoscientific patterns at scales approximating the 1:35 million scale for which they were prepared. The three data sets, provided in ARC/INFO, DXF, EOO, GENERATE, and DBF formats, are intended as input data for geographical information systems (GIS) software, which can be used to selectively customize a wide variety of visual displays focused on specific themes. The fourth component of the CD-ROM is a version of SurView, a MicrosoftR-WindowsTM 3.1 graphical viewing utility, packaged with these three data sets in proprietary format.
