Abstract | Gradients have been calculated for a large number of outlet glaciers entering fiords in Alaska, Greenland, Antarctica and Arctic Canada. A linear relationship exists between the overall length and the
gradient of these glaciers. This method finds application in the reconstruction of ice surfaces of former outlet glaciers in areas previously glaciated, and an example is taken from Baffin Island.
